The Spider Glazing facade provides maximum daylight inside the building, while also allowing the placement of large clear glass surfaces as the building envelope. These types of curtain walls are commonly used in commercial buildings. In this type, the glass panes are fixed using special accessories, such as spiders, turntables, clamps, tie rods and other supporting parts, which are attached to the supporting structure.
Point fixed glass systems are used most frequently in structural glass curtain walls to create transparency and depth of vision for the occupants.
The glass panes are either bolted or clamped with components providing attachment to the structural system. The most common system type is often referred to as a spider system. The metallic fingers that support the glass facades allow the designer to increase transparency by minimizing the structural framing.

The deflection of the point-fixed glass facade is also important when considering the sway of the entire structure. Glass walls can be designed to have low stiffness and withstand large deformations. The limits of deflection are determined by human perception of safety, usually outlined in a code of practice. Some glass manufacturers produce their joint systems that enable the connection between the bolt and the glass to withstand small bending moments. Others make their systems allow the glass to rotate relative to the joint. Therefore, prior to any finite element analysis, a detailed understanding of the allowable movement of point-fixed glass curtain walls is required.
Glass panels in point-fixed systems deform and therefore stress when subjected to evenly distributed surface pressures such as wind loads.
Advantages:
1. Good permeability
2. Good flexibility
3. Good safety
4. Good sense of craftsmanship
5. Good environmental protection and energy saving
